Zehao builds the MFAB-2 around a cold-rolled steel tube frame with an anti-rust electrostatic powder coating — the same welded steel construction used in our bunk, loft and dormitory beds, statically load-tested to 200 kg per sleeping position with an SGS report on file. The cabinet body carries the storage: open shelving and drawers that stay accessible when the bed is folded away. A fold-down support leg with a safety lock holds the bed steady in the open position, and the whole unit can be fitted with lockable casters so a single person can move it between rooms.

Because it is free-standing, the MFAB-2 does not require structural wall anchoring — an advantage for rentals, serviced apartments and furnished projects where the buyer cannot modify the building. Shipment is KD flat-pack in export cartons, which keeps freight cost per unit low on full containers.

7. How to Specify a Murphy Bed for a Project

For hotel groups, serviced apartment operators, student housing providers and furniture importers, the order process follows six steps. Sending these details with the enquiry avoids drawings going back and forth.

1. Configuration and mattress size — single, double or a custom sleeping area, plus mattress thickness and density if you supply it to a brand standard.
2. Fix method — free-standing (no wall anchor, suitable for rentals and listed buildings) or wall-anchored for maximum stability.
3. Finish and colour — RAL colour reference for the steel frame, and wood-grain or solid panel finish for the cabinet.
4. Quantity and destination port — so we can quote the container loading and freight together with the unit price.
5. Compliance documents — load-test reports, material certificates and factory audit documents required by your market.

8. Load Rating, Sizes and Finishes

Load rating and adult use

Every sleeping position is statically load-tested to 200 kg (approx. 440 lb) with an SGS test report on file. That is deliberately above the usual household expectation, because a wall bed has to carry an adult getting in and out of a raised sleeping surface, plus a mattress — not just a static body weight. It is the same welded steel frame we build into our bunk, loft and dormitory beds, and it is why this model suits heavier adults and plus-size users, guest rooms used by visitors of any size, teenage bedrooms, and commercial rooms with a high turnover of different occupants. Lower-cost frames rated to around 120 kg are available on request for markets where that meets the local standard.

Sizes, including XL and Queen

Single 190 × 90 cm and double 190 × 140 cm are the standard production sizes. Longer and wider sleeping areas — queen, king and XL lengths — are built to order on the same lines, because the frame is cut and welded in-house rather than bought in as a fixed-size kit. Finishes and colours

The steel frame is powder-coated to any RAL reference — black, white, grey and anthracite are the most requested, and black frames with a light cabinet are the usual choice for a modern or industrial interior. The cabinet is available in wood-grain or solid panel finishes to match an existing bedroom range. Built for small spaces

The cabinet stands roughly 45 cm deep and folds vertically, which is what makes it work in studios, micro apartments, tiny homes, convertible rooms and rental units where a permanent bed would block the route from door to window. It also suits a spare room that has to earn its keep as a home office or playroom, and short-let units where the same room has to sleep guests and function as living space. Because the unit is freestanding, no wall fixing is needed — which is what rented and listed buildings usually require. What is the difference between a Murphy bed and a wall bed?

They describe the same product family. “Murphy bed” comes from the early 20th-century American patent and is the term most used in North America; “wall bed” is the general international term, common in the UK, Europe and Australia. A cabinet bed is a wall bed whose folded form is a complete self-supporting cabinet — which is how this model is built.

Does a Murphy bed have to be fixed to the wall?

Not this one. The MFAB-2 is free-standing: the cabinet carries the mechanism and the fold-down support leg, so no structural anchoring is required. That suits rentals, serviced apartments and buildings where the tenant may not drill into the wall. Wall anchoring is still possible if you prefer maximum stability.

How much floor space does it free up?

Folding the bed into its cabinet frees roughly 4–6 m² of floor space depending on the configuration. The room works as an office, study or lounge by day and converts back to a bedroom in seconds, operated by one person.

Does the price include a mattress?

A 4–6 inch (10–15 cm) tri-fold foam mattress with a zippered, washable cover is included as standard and stores inside the cabinet when the bed is closed. For hotel or project orders we can also build to your mattress specification, for example 28 kg/m³ density foam with a PVC or fabric cover.

What sizes are available?

Every unit ships KD (knock-down) in an export carton with the hardware, an easy-to-follow assembly drawing and a folding-instruction label, so the end user can see the opening sequence before unpacking. Container loading is roughly 180–220 sets per 40HQ in single configuration.
